Spring 2024 — Ross T Lucas photo exhibit “Mystery & Beauty” at the Hannah Community Center in East Lansing

Photography has been a part of my life from the earliest time I can remember.  My dad had an old 35mm camera that he needed to use a light meter with. I remember him looking for things to photograph, subjects that showed shape and texture. (He particularly liked photographing flowers.)  My mother worked in a photo shop in New York City during the Second World War.  Later in life she always seemed to have a camera with her.

I was about eight years old when my parents gave me my first camera, a Brownie Box camera that used film size 120.  I couldn’t do a lot because of the cost of film and developing it.  With the advent of the digital age, I was set free.

When I take a picture, I look for things that others might only see superficially.  That may be things that remind me of the past, like old barns or dead trees.  I like things that reflect constant change, like waterfalls or large bodies of water.  Sometimes it is a common everyday subject that interests me, but I see it from a unique angle.

I hope you enjoy the photos you see here.  I post these for enjoyment, not for profit.  If you see something you like and would like a print, contact me and we can discuss it. All of these photographs are copyrighted by me.
